WSJ: 44 Percent Of Recent Grads Underemployed

15janmb

Happy Wednesday folks,

This Afternoon, President Obama will deliver remarks on the economy at North Carolina State University. Undoubtedly, he will try to tell the young people in attendance that his economic strategy has been working, and that it’d be going even better if it weren’t for those pesky conservatives who just want to stand in his way.

However, recent data reported by The Wall Street Journal’s David Wessel indicate that his economic policies have not been going well for young people.

As of 2012 (the most recent data available), “the fraction of college grads between 22 and 27 who were working in jobs that don’t generally require a bachelor’s degree” was 44 percent. And for those immediately out of college (at age 22), the figure is 56 percent.

Is President Obama willing to tell the students at NC State that, statistically, more than half of their peers who just graduated are underemployed?

Young people in America deserve better. Conservatives must realize that even though young people flocked to Obama in the past, his policies have failed them. It’s important to lay out a clear, jobs-driven agenda that helps young people start a career, buy a house, and pay off their debt. Conservative economic policies can do these things, but these underemployed young people must be addressed directly.

Seize the day.
