The Truth Behind Obamacare’s New Enrollment Figures

Happy Tuesday folks,

You may hear a lot of talk this week about how Obamacare has reached a new milestone: 5 million enrollees. However, there are some important aspects of that figure to keep in mind.

First of all, the Obama Administration’s original goal was seven million enrollments, which Politico’sKyle Cheney says is “now viewed as unattainable.”

Next, it’s important to remember that the Obama Administration defines an enrollee as someone who has just picked out a plan (nevermind that they haven’t paid their first premium). Secretary Sebelius admitted last week that she has no idea how many Obamacare enrollees have actually paid their first premiums. “I can’t tell you because I don’t know that,” noted Sebelius in a House Ways & Means hearing.

Sarah Hurtubise of The Daily Caller recently wrote that estimates from “consulting firms’ studies of data” would bring that 5 million down to 3.85-4 million instead.”

Americans deserve healthcare policy that is based on expanding access and lowering costs. Instead, through Obamacare, hardworking people are seeing their work hours cut back, reduced access to their doctors, and increased costs.

Seize the day.
