Obama Economy: Young Americans Go From Hope to Hopeless
WASHINGTON, D.C. – A new analysis of government data conducted for The Associated Press shows that recent college graduates are unemployed at alarming rates. The struggling economy has left more than 50% of recent college graduates out of work.
Spokesman Brad Dayspring issued the following statement on behalf of the YG Network:
“Millions of young Americans flocked to the polls four years ago in support of candidate Barack Obama, who promised, ‘hope,’ and ‘change.’ President Barack Obama has broken his promises, leaving those same young Americans feeling changeless, jobless, and hopeless.
“It is astounding that in America, more than half of recent college graduates can’t find a job or have given up looking for one completely. That is going from hope to hopeless in just three years. America is at a crossroads, and young Americans can’t afford four more years of President Obama’s failed policies. There is a better way; America needs a new generation of conservative leaders who believe in the entrepreneurial spirit of America, investment, growth and opportunity. Leaders who understand that government doesn’t create real, sustainable job growth, entrepreneurs, small businessmen and women, and investors do.
BACKGROUND: The AP analysis shows that:
- About 1.5 million, or 53..6%, of bachelor’s degree-holders under the age of 25 last year were jobless or underemployed, the highest share in more than a decade.
- Out of the 1.5 million who languished in the job market, about half were underemployed, an increase from the previous year.
- By region, the Mountain West was most likely to have young college graduates jobless or underemployed — roughly 3 in 5. It was followed by the more rural southeastern U.S., including Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee. The Pacific region, including Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington, also was high on the list. Texas was most likely to have young college graduates in higher-skill jobs.
