Payroll to Population Rate Falls

As the US economy continues to show signs of weakness, it would make sense that the same weakness would show in the US labor market—and that’s just what we’re seeing: the number of Americans with full time jobs is falling.

Even as the new jobs report shows 3.6 million longterm unemployed, an even more frightening stat is out: the US Payroll-to-Population (P2P) rate. For those unfamiliar, the P2P rate shows the number of American adults (ages 18+) employed full-time (at least 30 hours a week) by an employer.

The most recent poll shows a decline of nearly 1%, down from 42.9% in December 2013 to just 42% in January 2014—the lowest rate in almost 2 years.

It’s easy to see that the President’s liberal policies are failing the nation and everyday working Americans, and it’s not creating the right climate needed to strengthen the middle class.

Conservatives have a unique opportunity to present policy solutions that fix the mess that the President and his liberal allies have created, and it’s time for them to do just that.
