Obama’s Quarterly Approval Ratings: Not So Good

21JanMB

Happy Tuesday folks,

Brand-spanking-new data from Gallup reveals that the most recent quarterly average of President Obama’s approval rating is a paltry 41.2 percent. (Richard Sherman would probably describe such numbers as “mediocre.”)

With so many Americans struggling to get ahead in the Obama economy, it’s easy to see why his approval ratings are so low.

Take higher education, for example. Often while on a campaign-style roadshow, President Obama insists that higher education is a top priority of his. However, under his leadership, tuition, fees, room and board (in current US dollars) at a four-year public college has increased almost 28 percent.

And according to a recent YG Network poll, 47 percent of respondents say “only the upper class” can afford to pay for their children’s college education.

Rather than focusing on a patchwork economic agenda that focuses on a narrow, liberal agenda, President Obama and his allies should advocate policies that actually expand the economy and get people back to work. After all, Americans’ satisfaction with the opportunity to “get ahead by working hard” has declined by three points over the past year (57 percent to 54 percent), and dissatisfaction has gone up three points (from 42 percent to 45 percent).

It’s unfair to millions of American families that President Obama’s pet-projects, record spending, and disastrous healthcare law remain among his top priorities. Conservatives need to continue to show the American people that they advocate creating an environment in which the middle class can actually expand, and that conservative policy can keep people from just treading water in Obama’s economy.

Seize the day.
