Happy Tuesday folks,
Today, President Obama “for at least the fifth time this year, is seeking to pivot to the economy, this time in a bid to change the subject from the disastrous rollout of ObamaCare,” according to The Hill’s Justin Sink.
And liberal lawmakers are joining him. Per National Journal’s Josh Kraushaar, “President Obama’s pollster Joel Benenson sent a memo to congressional Democrats encouraging them to refocus attention on the economy and ignore the health care chaos that has consumed the administration for the last two months.”
These lukewarm pivots to the economy by Obama and his congressional allies will be unsuccessful for two reasons: Obamacare is becoming more damaging every day, and people are still struggling due to the Left’s economic policies.
Starting with Obamacare- people are now realizing that even if Obamacare does not raise their premiums, the law can still negatively affect them in other ways. A couple profiled by NBC News recently found out that even though their premiums will go up by only four dollars next year, their plan that recently covered “the first dollar they spend with no deductible,” “now includes a $1,000 deductible and a $2,500 out of pocket maximum. They also will still have small co-pays for services.”
And from an economic standpoint, a pivot won’t help the Left because their record does not indicate success.
Results from a new Washington Post-Miller Center poll reveal that more than six in ten workers “worry that they will lose their jobs to the economy, surpassing concerns in more than a dozen surveys dating to the 1970s.”
And lower-paid workers are worried about the rising costs of everyday goods as well as their paychecks. “Fully 85 percent of them fear that their families’ income will not be enough to meet expenses, up 25 points from a 1971 survey asking an identical question,” according to the survey.
The Left will continue to set a low bar for success so that they can merely trip over it and claim a victory. However, the American people know better. The problems with a healthcare law that raises costs and trims access to doctors will not go away just because the Left tries to ignore them.
And minor pivots to the economy will not ameliorate the angst that families feel due to the weak economy.
Knowing this, conservatives must set the standard of success and demonstrate a clear path of sound policy that can get Americans back on track.
Seize the day.
