Obamacare claims yet another victim: veterinarians.
Kaiser Health News recently profiled a new set of victims of Obamacare: veterinarians. You might ask why on earth would the bill impact a vet. After all, the furry friends that vets treat aren’t even incorporated into Obamacare. But the Administration felt that it was necessary to extend the 2.3 percent medical device tax to them.
Dr. Douglas Aspros, a vet in Pound Ridge, New York, says the 2.3 percent tax might not sound like much but will negatively impact his business: “That may sound trivial but if a device costs $30,000 to $40,000, it is not a trivial expense.”
We should be happy that our pets get exempted from Obamacare (did they cut a backroom deal with the Administration, too?), but it’s unfair to the hard-working vets who treat them to be subjected to this painful tax.
