There’s a scene in A Knight’s Tale where the hero and his band of cohorts appear above the villain and say, “You’ve been weighed. You’ve been measured. And you have absolutely been found wanting.” The band of merry men then gallup off into the sunset and are [presumably] never really bothered again. In a lot of ways, we do this in our own lives—in every decision that we make; but what if you can’t just trot away from something you find, well, less than attractive?
The youngest generation—millennials—are finding this is the case with Obamacare. Many see that the President’s signature healthcare law is unfairly burdensome for their generation, expensive, and not particularly helpful for them. As the American Action Forum writes, “The ACA’s perverse economic incentives are well documented. The law makes health insurance more expensive for many young adults…[I]t is clear that many young adult enrollees will be worse off financially if they decide to purchase health insurance.”
In a sense, for millennials, the law has been weighed, measured, and found wanting; but what’s next?
It’s time for conservatives to step up to the plate and offer a solution that both improves healthcare and controls its costs by reducing overall healthcare costs, propelling the youngest generation into a more prosperous future.
