Why Conservatives Should Keep Talking About Obamacare

Happy Monday folks,

According to Elise Viebeck of The Hill, conservatives are currently shying away from their strategy on Obamacare “as the White House rides a wave of good news on the law.”

However, it is wholly appropriate for conservatives to remain resistant to the failed law that is Obamacare. In fact, only 12 percent of the American people deem Obamacare a success, according to a new CNN/ORC International poll. More than three times as many people (39 percent) say that the law is a failure, and for independents the margin is even larger (8 percent success, 42 percent failure).

It’s understandable why so many Americans recognize Obamacare (and by extension, liberal policies) as a failure- it “creates a disincentive to work,” reduces access to preferred doctors, and raises costs.

On the costs front, National Journal’s Sam Baker recently reported that “Despite Obamacare’s strong national enrollment numbers, several states are at risk for big premium hikes.”

While predicting the increases “is an inexact science,” premiums might have “higher-than-average increases” in places “that fell short of their overall enrollment goals, and where the people who did enroll are mostly older and sicker, are more at risk for large premium hikes. So are states that don’t have much competition among insurers.”

It’s important to keep in mind, however, that opposition to Obamacare is only one of many policy positions that conservatives must support in order to help middle-class families. The law is disastrous, but everyday Americans are struggling in the Obama economy in other ways.

Not only are they having a difficult time finding a good job, but prices for things like gas, groceries, and higher education continue to rise. Liberals’ Washington-based economic views are hurting the American people, so they are ready for a sound conservative alternative.

Seize the day.
