Fed Chair: US “Not Close To Full Employment”

Happy Spring folks,

Today Americans get a fresh chance to shake off chilly doldrums of winter. If only we could also shake off the drag of President Obama’s policies on our economy.

Yesterday, Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen admitted that the American economy is “not close to full employment,” and the American people echo her discouraged outlook.

According to a new Gallup survey, less than one in three Americans say that now is a good time to find a quality job. “When two-thirds of the population says it is a bad time to find a quality job, this clearly does not describe an optimal economic environment,” noted Gallup.

Here’s a breakdown of Americans’ glum view of job opportunities, by age:

  • 18-29 year olds: 57 percent say it’s a bad time to find a quality job; only 43 percent say it’s a good time to find a job.

  • 30-49 year olds: 64 percent say it’s a bad time to find a quality job; only 31 percent say it’s a good time.

  • 50-64 year olds: 76 percent say it’s a bad time to find a quality job; only 20 percent say it’s a good time.

  • 65+: 78 percent say it’s a bad time to find a quality job; only 18 percent say it’s a good time.

The American people deserve better economic policy than what they are getting from President Obama and his congressional allies. Optimism about job prospects remains dim while costs for things like education, healthcare, gas, and groceries continue to rise. Additionally, harmful laws like Obamacare directly attack people’s pocketbooks. Conservatives must remain focused on enacting policies that help Americans find a good job.

March Madness the day.
