The Business of Regulation

When it comes to making rules, bureaucrats have long since held the reins, but our research suggests it’s time for that to change.

More Americans are learning how much the regulatory climate can wreak havoc on their jobs and businesses, but they are also learning that there is not a good system for calling bureaucrats to the carpet when they yield their regulatory authority with blatant disregard.

According to our research: 64% of respondents approve of having elected lawmakers, rather than unelected bureaucrats, approve regulations with an economic impact of $100 million or more (May poll).

Add to that the fact that our dial test participants responded positively to this: Burdensome regulations reduce salaries, reduce the numbers of employees, and shutter businesses, which means even more Americans out of work. Where is the concern for ordinary Americans? A recent study from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce details how various EPA regulations would have an impact on worker incomes equivalent to the annual loss of tens of thousands of jobs.

It’s clear that there is little to no accountability in Washington when it comes to regulations. The time has come to end the crippling grip of over-regulation, and spark the American Middle-Class revival that we’ve all been waiting for.
